Deng was a Belgian magazine that was published from April 2003 to January 2006 in Antwerp.

Deng-safari01deng02“Deng” was the successor to MaoMagazine, which had gone bankrupt before 2003 (Deng was named after the Chinese dictator Deng Xiaoping, who was the successor to Mao Zedong.) This time the magazine was not distributed free of charge as a ‘teaser’ for online subscription content but was sold as a normal printed magazine.  The magazine had room for critics of capitalism, the free market, and the foreign policy of Western powers, such as Noam Chomsky and Adam Porter, and controversial artists such as Anselm Kiefer and David Cerny. The content was divided into in-depth investigative journalism pieces on one side, and music, lifestyle, and humorous sections on the other side.

The website, which I designed and managed from 2003 to 2006, was a promo microsite that showcased the new cover and all the highlights of each month.
